For the chef in the party, they will be over the moon with the attractive and well-equipped kitchen where you can imagine delicious meals being whipped up ready to be served at the elegant dining table. Adjoining patio doors open from here giving you the opportunity to throw them open on warmer days and bring the outside in or you could step outside to the charming patio area and enjoy time eating and drinking alfresco. Take a boat trip over to the Farne Islands where you might catch sight of an unusual bird or seal. If you love wildlife, then you’ve come to the right place with RSPB reserves at Annstead Dunes and Hauxley Wildlife Discovery Centre. Activities worth having a go at while you’re here include golf at Alnmouth Golf Club, horse-riding at Slate Hall Riding Centre, surfing at Bamburgh Castle Beach and sailing at Beadnell Sailing Club. Situated just 4 miles east of Alnwick, Alnmouth is a charming resort popular with golfers and those seeking a peaceful holiday. The village lies on a narrow spit of land between the River Aln and the North Sea and was originally the port for Alnwick. Nowadays the area has returned to its unspoilt origins and offers a good variety of shops, pubs and restaurants as well as an excellent “links” golf course and some great rivers for fishing, as well as boasting miles and miles of splendid beaches and sand dunes to explore which afford stunning views of the North Sea. A short drive will bring you to Alnwick with its famous historic castle, The Alnwick Garden housing the Poison Garden which runs guided tours through dangerous botanicals and a variety of pubs and restaurants. Alnmouth is well situated for exploring Northumberland.

Lesbury is a great village and we enjoyed walking to the coast and running nearby. Local people seemed friendly and the village store was excellent. We appreciated the bedding options (I liked the feather pillow) and the fantastic log-burner. We had a very restful time and would recommend both the location and the cottage.

It was clean and comfortable and very well equipped.Lots of thoughtful extras were provided (milk and butter in the fridge, wine, cake ,biscuits etc). The beds were very comfortable and the en suites were ideal as we were two couples, so no bathroom queues in the morning. It is in a lovely quiet location yet it was close to the station and a short drive from the coast and shops pubs and restaurants. We would have no hesitation in recommending the cottage.

The owners are very helpful and accommodated our additional requests. Pleased that this remains a dog free property. Both neighbouring properties are dog friendly, with dogs present during our stay, which is fine, but not to everyone’s liking. The 2 rating above relates to the letting agents (not the owners!) Disappointed with the lack of response from the Sykes to the emails that I sent prior to our stay and no contact telephone number to speak to someone. Very poor customer service! As a result I had to contact the owners direct who were exceptionally helpful and accommodating.
